How to Eat Keto during Thanksgiving

For many people, Thanksgiving is one of the best holidays of the year. Besides being a time to show gratitude for the events of the year, Thanksgiving is also a time when most people get together with their loved ones to share experiences, have a great time and strengthen family bonds.

Also accompanying the fun, shared experiences, and gratitude, are several delicious dishes, and of course the Thanksgiving turkey! And, when you are on a diet, especially a keto diet, you have to resist the urge to dig into all the mouth-watering “keto-non-compliant” dishes spread out before you. Now, you could decide to avoid attending/hosting a Thanksgiving dinner this year, or you could check out these tips I’ve outlined below, which can help you enjoy your Thanksgiving feast, and still maintain your keto lifestyle.

1.     Load Up on Meat

Turkey and ham… need I say more?

2.    Drink Distilled Spirits

Indulging in a maximum of two alcoholic drinks during Thanksgiving can keep your diet in check. However, when indulging in alcoholic drinks, opt for a pure distilled spirit such as plain vodka, gin or tequila. Whatever poison you pick, ensure that you do not exceed two glasses, seeing as alcohol can affect people on keto diets sooner and harder than those on a regular diet. Keep in mind when you consume alcohol, the liver first works on processing that before it works on your metabolism/weight loss… so weight loss will slow down temporarily.

3.    Prepare Home-Cooked Meals

If you are attending a Thanksgiving dinner, another tip is to prepare your meals from home, especially if you are sure that the meal to be served isn’t keto-compliant. With a substitute for almost all the regular ingredients, you can prepare interesting meals to enjoy during Thanksgiving. There are many keto recipes that still retain the Thanksgiving feel to it, so ensure you research on them to find the best one for you.

Recipe for a Thanksgiving Inspired Keto Stuffing

With so many holiday-inspired keto meals out there, you and your loved ones shouldn’t be at a loss for keto-compliant meals to eat this holiday. Here is a keto-stuffing recipe you can make use of, which pairs greatly with Thanksgiving meals.

Ingredients

  • Keto bread (look on Pinterest, tons of recipes to suit you)
  • Olive oil
  • Chopped vegetables
  • Poultry spice (to taste)
  • Butter

Instructions

  • Pour some olive oil onto a baking pan and sprinkle crumbled keto bread onto it
  • Spread some olive oil over the fine breadcrumbs and bake at 350 degrees for about 5 minutes or until brown
  • Sauté your chopped vegetables in olive oil and allow for some minutes
  • Mix your seasoned chopped vegetables & baked crumbs with melted butter, then bake for another 10 minutes again

Your keto stuffing is ready to be served. This stuffing can be used for not just turkey but mushrooms, pork, and chicken as well. So, you can fully partake in all the eating and drinking during Thanksgiving while still maintaining your keto diet. Enjoy!
