9 Keto Family Shopping Hacks

Adapting your diet to keto can be rough. It can be even more challenging when you’re trying to adapt the entire family to this way of eating. I do firmly believe that this diet is the best way of eating for most people, though. It’s certainly easier on the person cooking most of the meals if you can cook all of the meals the same way! Shopping for a family on keto doesn’t have to be difficult. I’ve put together some hacks to make it easier for you!

Plan Your Meals

Meal planning makes a huge difference, especially when you’re shopping for a family. It allows you to take advantage of sales and to use up any meats you may have stashed in the freezer. When shopping for a family on keto, use every opportunity to stock up on essentials like bacon, bone broth essentials like oxtails and chicken feet, and chicken breasts!

Prep Your Meals

Spend some time over the weekend doing some meal prep for the coming week. Chop vegetables, put bone broth ingredients into the crockpot, and make your salad dressings and marinades ahead of time.

Look for Ways to Make Things Easier

Cooking for the family takes time. Kitchen tools like an Instant Pot, a Dash Waffle Maker, and an Air Fryer will save you a lot of time.

Instant Pot

With an Instant Pot, you can use the pressure cooker option to cook meals quicker. You can go from frozen chicken breasts to finished meal in just about an hour, which is great for those days when you realize at about 2 p.m. that you’ve forgotten to take anything out to thaw for dinner!

Dash Waffle Maker

A Dash Waffle Maker is great for making chaffles. These are bread substitutes that can be either sweet or savory. Sweet ones are great dessert substitutes, while savory ones make good hamburger buns, or make great toast to go with bacon and eggs for breakfast!

Air Fryer

It’s hard to find a good oil to fry in. While MCT Oil is a great option for so many things, it’s not a good choice for frying foods. An air fryer gives you the opportunity to fry foods without a heavy breading or without using an oil that isn’t a good option. I use it often for cooking wings or shrimp.

Use Delivery Where You Can

I have to admit, I love Amazon delivery. It’s easier for me because in Canada, I don’t have as many options as some places. I can do Subscribe and Save for stuff I need often, and it saves me the time of having to wait for stuff to come through customs, because it’s fulfilled out of Canada. Figure out your go-to’s that you order often, and then set those up on a schedule that works for you. Having delivery set up for many of my items takes some of the work out of shopping for a family on keto!

Let the Kids Help

Keep your family involved in the cooking and the planning. If they are missing their favorite hamburgers, then plan a burger night with hamburger patties, chaffles for buns, and a salad as the side. Let the kids help make the chaffles, put the salad together, and make the burgers. Make it a full on experience by letting the kids shop for the food for that evening, too! You’ll be teaching them skills they will need for their grown up lives, and they will learn the importance of meal planning and how to fit foods we love into a budget. It’s important for our kids to learn why we can have hamburgers one night and then chicken thighs with cauliflower rice and broccoli the next night.

Plan for Outings

If you know you’re going to be out, plan for what you’re going to need. Will you be eating out? Then some MCT Oil Capsules will help you dress the salad you order. Taking your own food? Make sure you have the right containers to take with you. It will be easier to help your family make the right choices if you browse menus ahead of time or if you’re well-prepared.

The bottom line here is that you should do anything possible to make the transition easier on your family. Need better appliances? Get them.
